Association To Read Muster Roll In Livestream

Update: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Aggie Muster will look different this year, but the spirit remains the same. Check here for the latest information on how to Muster in 2020: tx.ag/2020Muster

Continuing a tradition that began in 2018, The Association of Former Students will call all 1,600-plus names on the Worldwide Muster Roll and answer “Here” for each in a three-hour reading that will be livestreamed April 21 on AggieNetwork.com.

The Association began this Worldwide Roll Call to ensure that no names would go unanswered for Muster, a Texas A&M tradition more than a century old.

To make sure a name is on the Worldwide Muster Roll, take the steps listed at tx.ag/AddAName before April 15. Names added after this point are called in the next year’s Worldwide Roll Call.

The third annual live Worldwide Roll Call will be livestreamed on April 21, 2020, at tx.ag/Here.

Typically, more than 300 Aggie Musters take place worldwide each year, each calling their own roll. That may take on a different look in 2020, as precautionary measures are taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 and adjustments are made to events across the country and globe.

But the spirit of Aggie Muster will remain unaltered.

Prior to 2018, there had not been an occasion on which every name on an annual list of deceased former Texas A&M students was called in a single location. It’s a common belief that the student Muster on campus calls the full list, but records show this was never the case; it has historically been like other Musters, calling names from its own community.

The full 1,600-plus Worldwide Muster Roll maintained by The Association includes all Aggies whose deaths have been reported to The Association since the previous Muster. Some of those deaths happened more than a year ago, but are included in this year’s Muster Roll because they had not previously been called at any Aggie Muster.

Names are sent to the Muster closest to where an Aggie lived, but because all Musters historically employ their own methods of selecting names to call, and because there are usually some names with no associated address, there has always been a chance some names would not be called. That is the situation this reading is intended to remedy, said Porter S. Garner III ’79, President and CEO of The Association of Former Students.

“It is fundamental to the Aggie Spirit that every Aggie’s name be called at Muster,” Garner said.
