So You Want Your Aggie Ring?

To see eligibility requirements for ordering an Aggie Ring,
please tell us a little about yourself.

Undergraduate and Professional School Students

To be eligible to order an Aggie Ring as an undergraduate or professional school student, you must have:

  • 90 total completed undergraduate or professional hours*
  • 45 completed institution undergraduate or professional hours*
  • 2.0 minimum cumulative Institutional GPR
  • must not be on academic probation, suspension, dismissal, expulsion, or on honor violation probation from the university

-OR-

  • You must have a degree from Texas A&M University and be in good standing with the university.

You can check your hours and GPA in your Howdy Dashboard!

  • Under your Student Record, select Academic Record & Planning Summary where you can view your hours under GPA Summary & Totals
    • Institutional hours are your completed hours at Texas A&M
    • Total Transfer hours are your completed transfer hours that count toward your cumulative hour total
    • Overall hours are your completed cumulative hours
    • Your cumulative GPR is listed next to your Institutional hours



If you believe there is a discrepancy, please scroll through your records to see if all your transfer and TAMU hours have posted. You may need to contact your academic advisor for further assistance.

If your first semester enrolled as a full-time student at Texas A&M was prior to January 1, 1994, you only need 30 completed institution hours. A full-time student is defined as completing at least 12 hours with a 2.0 GPR in a Spring or Fall semester; or 4 completed hours with a 2.0 GPR in both summer session I and II for a total of 8 completed hours; or 8 completed hours and a 2.0 GPR in a 10-week session.

Graduate Students

To be eligible to order an Aggie Ring, a graduate student must not be on academic probation, suspension, dismissal, expulsion, or on honor violation probation from the university.

  • Master's Thesis Students: Defend your thesis.
    • Due to ordering deadlines, you may order your Ring at the beginning of the semester in which you will graduate. Your records will be reviewed prior to Aggie Ring Day to verify you have defended your thesis. If your records indicate that you have not defended your thesis prior to Aggie Ring Day, your Ring will be held until all qualifications have been met.
  • Master's Non-thesis Students: Complete 75% of the coursework required for your degree program at Texas A&M.
    • Your degree plan must be on file with the Graduate and Professional School.
  • Ph.D. and Ed.D Students: Be admitted to Ph.D. candidacy.
    • This means you have completed all formal coursework for your degree plan, you have a cumulative and degree plan GPR of at least a 3.0, you have successfully completed the residency requirement, you have successfully passed your preliminary exam, and you have an approved research proposal on file.

  • You must have a degree from Texas A&M University and be in good standing with the university.

Former Students

To be eligible to order an Aggie Ring, a former student must:

  • Have a degree from Texas A&M University (The Aggie Ring Program will check your transcript to verify that your degree was conferred by Texas A&M) 
  • Be in good standing with the university.

-OR-

If you are a former student without a Texas A&M degree, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must not have left the university on academic probation, suspension, dismissal, expulsion, or on honor violation probation

Former Undergraduate Students without a degree must have:

  • 90 completed cumulative undergraduate hours reflected on your Texas A&M University record
    • All undergraduate transfer hours must have been completed and transferred to Texas A&M before your last semester of attendance in order to be counted toward the 90 cumulative hour requirement
    • You cannot transfer hours in after leaving the University to qualify for an Aggie Ring
  • Institution Hours
    • If you enrolled at Texas A&M after December 31, 1993 you must have 45 completed undergraduate institution hours at Texas A&M University
    • If you enrolled at Texas A&M prior to January 1, 1994 you must have 30 completed institution hours at Texas A&M University, and you must have successfully completed a Fall/Spring semester or Summer term as a full-time student prior to 1994. A full-time student is defined as completing at least 12 hours with a 2.0 GPR in a Spring or Fall semester; or 4 completed hours with a 2.0 GPR in both summer session I and II for a total of 8 completed hours; or 8 completed hours and a 2.0 GPR in a 10-week session.
    • The last 30 completed hours must be from Texas A&M University
  • GPR
    • If you attended Texas A&M after May 31, 1969 a 2.0 cumulative GPR (under a 4.0 system) must be reflected on your Texas A&M University record
    • If you attended Texas A&M prior to June 1, 1969 a 1.0 cumulative GPR (under a 3.0 system) must be reflected on your Texas A&M University record

Former Graduate Students without a degree must:

  • Meet the requirements of a current graduate student as outlined. 

Health Science Center

Current, continuing students attending the Texas A&M University Health Science Center on or after July 15, 2013 may become eligible for an Aggie Ring under the existing rules for undergraduate, professional, master's and doctoral students. Students who did not attend on or after July 15, 2013 are not eligible for an Aggie Ring. This applies to all Texas A&M University Health Science Center academic units (Baylor College of Dentistry, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Institute of Biosciences and Technology, Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, School of Rural Public Health).

School of Law

Current, continuing students attending the Texas A&M University School of Law on or after August 12, 2013 may become eligible for an Aggie Ring under the existing rules for professional students. Students who attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law, unless they were enrolled on or after August 12, 2013, are not eligible for an Aggie Ring.

Texas A&M System Schools

Only qualified students and former students of Texas A&M University and its branch campuses (Texas A&M University at Galveston and Texas A&M University at Qatar) are eligible to receive an Aggie Ring.

Students from other Texas A&M System schools should check with their university to inquire about ring programs available to them.

Ineligible Programs

The following cases do not qualify for an Aggie Ring:

  • Non-degree seeking students and former students
  • Certificate Program students and former students

Rules Concerning Hours

Texas A&M University has set the following rules and regulations concerning credit hours:

  • A student cannot receive duplicate credit hours for the same course, per Texas A&M University Academic Rules and Regulations, unless the catalog states the course may be repeated for credit
  • Credit by examination, work experience, or military experience is only applicable to cumulative credit hours. These hours cannot be used in the calculation of institution hours at Texas A&M University.
  • Undergraduate transfer credit may be used toward determining eligibility (they count toward the 90 cumulative hours). Before these hours are counted, they must be posted on your Texas A&M student record.
  • In the event an undergraduate student or former student has both an undergraduate and graduate student record, the graduate hours and undergraduate hours can combine to meet the undergraduate requirements for an Aggie Ring.
