Catherine Joyce "Cathy" (Klug) Melancon
April 9, 1963 - April 18, 2024
Catherine Joyce Klug (Cathy) Melancon was born April 9, 1963 in Yuma, Arizona, the third child of John Charles and Patricia (Pat) Louise Klug and went to her reward on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her home in Cypress, Texas.
She grew up in The Terrace in Jones Creek, a small village outside of Freeport, Texas. She attended Brazosport High School before going on to get her Bachelors Degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and her Master's Degree at HBU. It was while she was employed at Union Texas Petroleum that she met Kip Marcus Melancon who would eventually become her beloved husband. They were married for 26 years and had two wonderful boys, Easton Garrett Melancon and John Colton Melancon.
Cathy was stricken with ALS in 2022, with her first symptoms appearing in March. She was finally diagnosed with Bulbar-Onset ALS, which is a more aggressive version, in December of that year. Just as she had devoted her heart and soul to helping him recover when he had cancer, Kip took care of Cathy at home for the entirety of her battle.
Cathy is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband, Kip, and sons, Easton and Colton Melancon, as well as sisters, Leigh Ann Klug and Laura Jane Klug, brother, Karl Klug, and his wife, Leslie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and scores of friends. Cathy never met a stranger, only new friends and she will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association in Cathy's name.
