Charles Eugene Mize

March 7, 1954 - April 13, 2024

Charles Eugene Mize, known affectionately as Charlie, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in his hometown of San Antonio, TX, at the age of 70. Born on March 7, 1954, to Betty Ray Mize and Charles Henry Mize, Charlie grew up to embody the values of generosity, love, and friendliness that would define his entire life.

Charlie's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family and his passion for his work. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jeanette Mize; his daughter, Alysa Deitz and her husband, Ryan; step-sons, Christopher Horsley and his wife Bonnie, and Tyson Horsley with his significant other Lina. His brother, Darrel Mize and his wife Belynda, and sister-in-law Julie Mize, also survive him. Charlie's joy for life was further multiplied by his cherished grandchildren, Hadley Deitz, Riggs Deitz, and Harper Horsley, who brought him immense happiness. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allen Mize, and his in-laws, Greta and Frank Ferran.

A proud Aggie, Charlie graduated from Texas A&M University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. His education laid the foundation for a successful career in the construction industry. After working for various construction companies, Charlie's leadership and expertise led him to the role of Vice President at R.B. Green Construction, where he left a significant mark during his 19-year tenure. In 2010, Charlie's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish J.C. Mize Construction Services, where he continued to apply his craftsmanship and integrity to every project.

Beyond his professional achievements, Charlie loved to hunt and fish, sharing countless adventures with family and friends. He had a passion for telling stories of his hunting days. Above all, Charlie's greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren. Every moment with them was precious, and he seized every opportunity to create lasting memories that his family will hold dear.

Charlie's presence was a gift to all who knew him. His generous spirit was evident in the way he lived his life and the love he freely gave. He was a friend to many, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand. Charlie's legacy is one of love, hard work, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.

As we say goodbye to Charlie, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Charlie's story is not one of an end but a lasting influence that will ripple through the generations of his family and the community he helped build.

A service will be held to honor Charlie's life and legacy. He will be laid to rest in San Antonio, where his story began and where it will continue to be told by those who loved him most. Charlie Mize's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Charlie; your spirit lives on in the lives you've shaped and the love you've shared.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
