Barry Lynn Phillips

October 20, 1945 - March 9, 2024

Barry Lynn Phillips, 78, of Rockdale, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at his home in Rockdale. A visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale with Pastor Stephen Ammons officiating.

Barry was born on October 20, 1945 to Lee Roy and Maxine Jean (Rothenberger) Phillips in Little Rock, Arkansas. He grew up in Corpus Christi, graduating from Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi. He went on to Del Mar Jr. College in Corpus Christi and then to Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering.

On October 29, 1966, he married Becky Ward in Sharpstown, Texas. He worked for TXU as the Sandow Plant manager until his retirement in 2000. He was a professional engineer with an engineer’s sense of humor but he was terrible at fixing cars. He enjoyed working with everyone there and was known for being a great boss who was fair and treated everyone equally. He was a devout Christian and active member at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was an Eagle Scout, he loved being outside, hunting, and hiking. He was a kind and generous teacher and mentor for his family and community, often being the voice of reason in the room. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren. When he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 32 years ago, he accepted it with determined courage and strength. Through everything in his life, he was always humble. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Tammy Nay and Jennifer Rebecca Phillips; parents Lee Roy and Jean Phillips; sisters-in-law, Sharon Moody, Evelyn Schmidt and husband Rick, Jennifer Campbell and husband Randy, and Robin Nowak; and parents-in-law, Naomi and Howard Ward.

Barry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Becky Phillips of Rockdale; son, Wade Phillips and wife Sarah of Fulshear; grandchildren, Halle Jennifer Phillips, and Zachary Wade Phillips; sister, Niki Phillips of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister-in-law, Kay Countis of Shepherd; brothers-in-law, Don Nowak of Giddings, and Russ Moody of Hamilton, MT; and many nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Brannam, Terry Browning, Kevin Starr, Dennis Green, Bill Jones, Dick Burns, Irby McWilliams, Collin Brickhouse, Jerry McPeck, Vijay Ponnaiya, James Earley, John Gilchrist, Cody Landis, Richard Todd, Jason Brown, Ron Montgomery, Bill Zimmerman, and James Rackley.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hazel Zuniga, Tammy Cass, Rosie Johnson, Yolanda Rosas, and Traditions Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave Barry.
