Larry Lee Thurman 

August 31, 1936 - February 12, 2024 

Larry Lee Thurman, 87, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, in Saint Jo, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Saint Jo, Texas with Pastor Mark McBride officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo.

Mr. Thurman was born on August 31, 1936, to Lee Manuel and Nell Thurman in Decatur, Texas. Larry attended school in Saint Jo and graduated in 1954. During his senior year as a Saint Jo Panther, Larry was voted Most Athletic Boy and Best All ‘Round Boy. After high school, Larry attended Texas A&M University where he received a degree in Ag Engineering. After his college graduation, Mr. Thurman worked as a civil engineer in Cuba, New Mexico. While working in New Mexico, he married Mary Alice Wiese and together they were married 27 years and had two children, Patrick and Linda Thurman. Larry and Mary moved to Salmon, Idaho where they raised their children. After Mary’s passing, Larry attended a class reunion in Saint Jo and was reunited with Sandra Sewell, a former classmate and friend. Larry and Sandra were married on December 22, 2012, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and enjoyed 10 years of marriage together.

As previously mentioned, Larry was an engineer working for the Bureau of Land Management in Idaho, County Engineer in New Mexico and even working for the State Department in Afghanistan. Larry’s hobbies included walking, hiking and finding treasures at yard sales and flea markets. He loved traveling and learning about different cultures. No matter where Larry lived, you could always find him with his friends sipping coffee and storytelling. He really enjoyed meeting with his friends and brother, Ancil Thurman, at the local Dairy Queen in Saint Jo.

Mr. Thurman is survived by his son, Patrick Lee Thurman and his wife Jeanette, as well as his daughter, Linda Marie Thurman, and his brother Ancil Thurman. Larry has 3 grandchildren: Alexandra Slovacek, Brandon Slovacek and Madison Everhart.

Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jack and Patrick Thurman.

A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm, Friday, February 16, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home in Saint Jo, Texas.
