Zada Virginia "Ginny" Satterwhite 

June 13, 1944 - April 9, 2024 

Ginny Behrens Satterwhite passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 due to complications after suffering a stroke.

Ginny was born Zada Virginia Behrens on June 13, 1944 in Vancouver, Washington to Vivian Webb Behrens and Ernest Kendrick Behrens. The family moved to Presidio, Texas shortly after where Ginny spent her childhood playing in her father’s drugstore. Her family later moved to El Paso, Texas, where she graduated class of ’62 from El Paso High School and then received her Bachelor’s degree at Texas Western (now UTEP) where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She later earned a Master’s degree in Education from Texas A&M University and taught nearly every grade level over a teaching career that spanned El Paso, Eagle Pass, San Antonio and Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

Ginny married Barnes “Bud” Satterwhite on December 22, 1973. They spent 20 years in San Antonio, Texas where they were members at Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church and raised two daughters, Lindsay and Holly, before relocating to El Paso where she and Bud spent another 30 years as members at First Presbyterian and later at Trinity Methodist Church.

Ginny and Bud relocated to Denton, Texas in January 2023 to be near their daughters and granddaughters and were warmly welcomed into the First United Methodist Church downtown. They celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary in Hot Springs, Arkansas in December 2023.

Ginny was active in church life, volunteering at the food pantry, crocheting for the prayer shawl ministry and learning in Bible fellowship. She studied oil painting and created a gallery of original artworks. Her interest in history led her to create a work of historical fiction for youth entitled “The Quell Stone,” which she published.

Ginny was preceded in death by her father Ernest Kendrick Behrens, mother Vivian Webb Behrens, brothers Kenyon “Kenny” Behrens (Amparo), James Michael “Mike” Behrens (Idalia), and grandson Cody Adams. Brother John Behrens followed Ginny’s passing shortly afterwards on April 12, 2024.

She is survived by her husband Bud Satterwhite, daughters Lindsay Satterwhite-Preston (Matt), Holly Satterwhite and Dawn Tabor (Mike), grandchildren Eloise Preston, Clara Preston and Chelsea Adams (Jordan).

A memorial service will be held in El Paso on Sunday, April 21st at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 2:30pm followed by a service at 3:00pm and a reception immediately afterward. A graveside service will be held at Restlawn Cemetery on Monday, April 22nd at 10:30am.
