Jonathan David McGregor

January 29, 1988 - February 13, 2024

Jonathan McGregor passed away after a difficult battle with colon cancer on February 13th, 2024, at the age of 36.

Jonathan was born on January 29th, 1988, to Johnny and Mickie McGregor in Midland, TX. He was raised in Big Spring and attended Post high school. Jonathan went on to earn his degree in English at Texas A&M University. He continued his post-graduate education at Washington University in St. Louis where he completed his master's and PhD in English and American Literature.

Jonathan and Jennifer met in college, fell in love almost instantly and were married 1 year later. They lived in St. Louis while Jonathan completed his post-graduate work. Their first daughter, Maggie, was born there in 2014. After completing his doctorate, Jonathan landed his first teaching position at the Air Force Academy. Jonathan’s career then took his family to South Carolina where his second daughter, Charlotte, was born. But Texas and family pulled Jonathan’s family back in 2021, where Jonathan taught writing at Southern Methodist University

Anyone who met Jonathan could tell he was intelligent. He loved to discuss poetry, philosophy, literature, and music. When Jonathan spoke, people listened, even through his long, thoughtful pauses. ??

Jonathan had a personal relationship with Jesus that showed in the way he lived. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine love for others always showed there was that special grace in his life.

Jonathan loved spending time with his daughters, playing tea party or dinosaurs and taking Maggie on hikes. Being a father was a goal and dream for Jonathan, and his girls were everything to him. Being a musician, composer and writer occupied Jonathan’s few spare moments. His music is on Spotify. His first book, Communion of Radicals, is catalogued in the Library of Congress.

Jonathan was the most loving son, father and spouse a family could ask for. Jonathan is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughters Maggie and Charlotte, mother Mickie and father Johnny.

The memorial service will be held on Monday February 19th, 2024, at 1:30pm at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, TX.
