Jerry D. Brown 

November 8, 1936 - February 20, 2024 

Jerry Brown, age 87 of Breckenridge, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 1st at First Methodist Church with Pastor Samantha Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Harpersville Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Jerry D. Brown was born November 8, 1936 in Breckenridge, Texas to Cecil Brown and Zula Birdie Walker Brown. In high school, Jerry was part of the State Champion Buckaroo football team of 1954. After high school, he went on to further his education at Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, Jerry was a member of the Corps of Cadets for all four years. He graduated in the class of 1959 with a Bachelor’s in Animal Husbandry. After graduating from Texas A&M, Jerry joined the United States Air Force and during his assignment in France, he met and fell in love with Monique Andree Jeanine Porcheron. The two married on November 23, 1963 in Garel, France, and were happily married for 50 years. Monique accompanied Jerry around the world during his 20-year U.S. Air Force career that ended with his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980. He valued this service highly and achieved a multitude of honors that included the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallant Cross with Palm, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, several Oak Leaf Clusters, and many other honors, awards, and ribbons.

Soon after his retirement, the Brown family returned to his hometown of Breckenridge where he and Monique built a home on his family place that they maintained for the rest of their lives. While in Breckenridge, Jerry worked at First National Bank for 26 years. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church, Harpersville Cemetery, Swenson Memorial Museum, Stephens County Livestock Show, and Kiwanis Club, just to name a few.

Jerry enjoyed spending his free time after work and during retirement golfing and working on projects around his home, whether it was building fences, working in his barn, or landscaping flowerbeds alongside Monique. He and Monique adored their grandchildren and loved spending any chance they had with them. Monique often said she couldn't differentiate who were the kids and who was the adult between her husband and her grandchildren. The two of them created a beautiful home and a beautiful family that they cherished deeply. Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love and care that will be remembered by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Zula Brown; his wife, Monique Brown; brother, Jack Brown; brother-in-law, James Bennett; sister-in-law, Christian France Bennett; nephews, Jay Brown, Jimmy Bennett; and great niece, Michelle Wisdom.

Jerry is survived by daughter, Nathalie Blades and fiancé Jerry Westbrook of Breckenridge; son, Patrick Brown and wife Salina of Salado; sisters, Gail Mansheim and Nancy Brown, both of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Gaje W.W. Garrett, Quade Patrick Brown, Liberty Monique Blades, and Wrook Eubanks Brown; nieces and nephews, Tammy Brown and wife Carol, Caroline Bennett Lomme and husband Jeff, Gary Mansheim and wife Rachel, Jerry Mansheim, and many great-nieces and nephews.
