Andrew Wilson Griffin 

May 23, 1946 - February 12, 2024 

Dr. Andrew Wilson Griffin passed away February 12, 2024 in Temple, Texas at the age of 77.

Dr. Griffin is a native Houstonian who obtained several academic degrees including a Bachelor’s Degree from Marquette University, a Master’s Degree from Washington Theological Union and the University of Houston. He received his doctorate in psychology from Texas A&M University in 1990. He has practiced as a licensed psychologist in Texas since 1991.

Dr. Griffin worked as the psychologist and program director for the geropsychiatry unit at Austin State Hospital from 1991 to 1996. After moving to Beaumont, Texas, he provided psychology services to several long-term care facilities in Southeast Texas. Dr. Griffin served as the forensic psychologist at Mexia State Supported Living Center from 2004 to 2015 when he retired from full-time employment. Most recently, Dr. Griffin was working in independent practice providing forensic evaluations for the courts and for a forensic hospital.

Dr. Griffin has been active in several professional associations including serving on the Board of the Texas Psychological Association (TPA) and the Steering Committee for the National Task Group on Dementia Practices for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. He routinely provided educational programs at the annual TPA conference as well as at the Texas Chapter of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) annual conference.

Dr. Griffin has participated in a number of community service organizations including the Alzheimer’s Associations in Austin, Beaumont, and Mexia, as well as the local Habitat for Humanity, and the Rotary Club of Mexia.

Dr. Griffin is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dr. Charlotte Kimmel. They met at Texas A&M University while each of them was pursuing a doctorate degree in psychology.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at Blair Stubbs Chapel.
