Michael Nelson "Mike" Odom 

October 20, 1943 - April 3, 2024 

Michael Nelson Odom, 80, of Mercedes, Texas, passed away on April 3, 2024, in Denison, Texas. He was born and raised in Mercedes, Texas, and later graduated from Mercedes H.S. and Texas A&M University, where he majored in journalism. Michael lived in Houston and Dallas for a period but ultimately returned to the Rio Grande Valley as he was not fond of big city life.

Eventually he retired in Whitesboro, Texas and enjoyed life in a small town. He was known for his storytelling skills and had a deep love for history, particularly the history of the RGV and its irrigation system. Michael is survived by his two sisters, Jacqueline O. Mixson (Jacky) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Candyce M. Xenos (Candy) of Colorado Springs, CO. He was the son of Beverly and Vernette Odom on Baseline Rd.
