Robert Lee Mosty, Jr. 

April 20, 1944 - April 20, 2024 

Mr. Robert Lee Mosty, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2024, on his 80th birthday. Born on April 20, 1944, to Robert Lee Mosty, Sr. and Annie Lee Morgan Mosty, Robert grew up learning the family plant nursery business alongside his 3 siblings and 9 Mosty cousins. He graduated from Kerrville Tivy H.S. in 1962.

Robert followed in his father's footsteps and attended Texas A&M University as a member of the Corps of Cadets and earned a B.S. degree in Horticulture Science. Soon after graduating, Robert proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He met the love of his life, Darlene Kay Baker Mosty, in the Texas Hill Country where the Mosty family roots run deep. Darlene convinced Robert to follow her to Houston where he began a successful 33 year career with The City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department. They married on February 14th, 1970, and he remained faithful and true to Darlene for 54 years. God Blessed Robert and Darlene with three wonderful children, James, Denae, and Cheryl. As a devout Christian with a servant’s heart, he was kind, gentle, humble, patient, honest, and moral. A true example of what all men should strive to be. Throughout his life he devoted countless hours to serving others through Sagemont Presbyterian Church, First Methodist Conroe, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and many others.

Robert’s greatest happiness in life was spending time with his family and friends but he also thoroughly enjoyed returning home to Center Point, TX where he helped with the family business, Mosty Brothers Nursery, established in 1898. Restoring antique cars and trucks, gardening and landscaping, and summer fishing trips to Colorado were other passions of his. Known as a skilled card player, Robert enjoyed playing poker and Bourre. Darlene and Robert enjoyed traveling around the world, many of these trips were with The Traveling Aggies. He was a proud member of the Class of ’66 Buzzards and Friends. He also loved to cheer on the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Aggies.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, his daughters, Denae Mosty Valverde and her husband Eddie Valverde of The Woodlands, Cheryl Raymond and her husband Brandon Raymond of The Woodlands, one sister, Belinda Mosty Stanush and her husband Pat Stanush of San Antonio, one brother, Lee Anthony Mosty and his wife Donna Adams Mosty of Irving, and niece, Kelly Lynn Rees of Austin. Robert is also survived by his grandson, Christian Valverde, granddaughters, Emma Valverde and Caroline Raymond, great niece Ally Mosty Rees and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. His sister, Mary Lee Mosty Smith and son, James Paul Bankston, preceded him in death.

The family wishes to thank the incredible neighbors, friends, dedicated caretakers and the staff of Caring Ministries for the loving care provided to Robert.

Services will be held at First Methodist Conroe on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. The visitation will be in the sanctuary at 1:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, TX on Friday, April 26, 2024.
