Patricia E. "Tricia" Barber 

October 7, 1954 - May 15, 2024 

Dr. Patricia Eleanor Barber of Stafford, Virginia passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024. Tricia was born in Roanoke, Virginia on October 7, 1954. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Winkler; mother, Anne Barber; children, Tess Young and Cragin Eres; three grandchildren; and niece, Hayley Hallmark. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Barber, and sister, Deborah McNeill.

Dr. Barber dedicated her life to education. She served as the principal of St. Francis of Assisi School in Triangle, Virginia for 28 years. She was committed to academic excellence through Catholic education and providing a joyful learning environment for students, parents, and faculty.

Tricia earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. While at UGA, she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, serving as the Social Chair and President. She continued a lifetime of involvement with Alpha Gam and the National Panhellenic Conference, to include serving as Grand Vice President of Extension, opening 14 new Alpha Gam chapters, an NPC delegate, and area advisor. She was awarded the Circle of Epsilon Pi, the fraternity’s most distinguished honor, being the 26th person in Alpha Gam’s history to receive the honor.

Tricia had a contagious enthusiasm. She loved sequins, Georgia football, and Christmas. Tricia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, St. Francis community, Alpha Gam sisters, and all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.

A Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 29 at 11am.
