Gene Lanier Jameson

January 18, 1936 - April 20, 2024

Gene Lanier Jameson lived a rich and meaningful life of faith, honor, and integrity. He was deeply committed to his wife, family, friends, church, and country. He was always a trustworthy source of valuable insight and understanding but was known to dramatically punctuate life’s special moments with his resounding laugh.

Born in Dallas in 1936, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before serving in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. Thereafter, Gene served in the US Army as a company commander while stationed in Panama. He took the LSAT on a whim with a bad case of flu, then left the military to attend law school at the University of Texas. He graduated with honors, Order of the Coif, and law review editor. His law career was just as distinguished. He was a partner at renowned firms like Jones Day and Winstead and was chosen as a Super Lawyer. However, his most cherished career accomplishment was co-founding the Jameson & Powers law firm with his daughter, Holly.

His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and various ministries know him as a super reader, both in English and Spanish. He was a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend with all the time in the world to listen and offer sage advice and share a chocolate chip cookie or five. He loved to travel with his wife and in-laws and had many memorable trips abroad with a lot of laughter and fun. He and Lois often expressed how they were blessed to have come from two wonderful families.

Gene was devoted to his church, First Baptist Church of Dallas, where he and his wife, Lois, founded the Pathfinders Sunday school class, which they attended and contributed to for 35 years. He served on the Dallas planning and zoning committee and was an adjunct professor of law at SMU law school. In addition to being an attorney, he was a licensed mediator and arbitrator.

Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois Shanahan Jameson, daughter Holly Jameson Powers (Mack), and son Scott Lanier Jameson. He has five grandchildren: Reid Roman, Catherine Mason (Lex), Caroline Roman, Amber Powers and Emma Jameson, and four great grandchildren: Georgia Mason, Mackenzie Mason, Magnolia Mason, and Juliette Mason. He is preceded in death by his son Todd Andrew Jameson, his mother and father, Minnie and Joseph Kittrell, and his two older brothers, Jerry and David Jameson. Gene's legacy will be forever cherished.
