Tim Willett

November 10, 1959 - April 25, 2024

Tim Kevin “Jammer” Willett passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in College Station, Texas. Tim Kevin Willett was born in Brownwood, Texas, on November 10,1959, to Burrel and Frances Willett. He spent his early years living in a trailer park in Bryan, Texas, and his school years in La Grange, Texas. Tim graduated from La Grange High School in 1978. He was a member of the 1975 La Grange Leopards State Champion Football Team. He was also in the Drama Club and on the high school paper staff. After high school, Tim took the plunge into college. After time spent at Blinn College, Texas A & M University, Stephen F. Austin, and Kentucky, he settled into college life at the University of North Texas where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Administration in 1992. Then, he ventured off to the University of Kansas where he earned his Master in Recreational Management in 1994. Rock Chalk!

As Jammer began his career, his extended family grew, for the relationships he built lasted his lifetime. From 1994-1997, he ran the recreation department at the Marine Base in Yuma, Arizona. This was followed by an offer to run the recreation department at the Air Force Base on Johnston Atoll in the Hawaiian Islands from 1997-2000. While on the island, he became a master at bar tending, was music DJ extraordinaire, and the best tee shirt folder and bowling alley manager the island ever had. He soon was offered a position at Texas A & M-Commerce University, where he ran the intramural/recreation department. His next move was to become the Executive Director of Campus Life and Student Development until 2018. He finished off his career at Blinn College in Bryan-College Station as the Adult Education Campus Coordinator from 2018-2020. First while a student at Texas A&M and then during his career, Jammer became a NIRSA member and attended conferences across the United States, meeting up with his extended family annually. These people were truly his brothers and sisters, and his family is forever grateful for their friendships with him. The entire Willett family will always regard his NIRSA friends as family.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Burrel and Frances Willett, his paternal grandparents Claud and Vetrice Willett, and his maternal grandparents Tom and Oleo Taylor.

He is survived by one sister, Vonice (Robert) Frerichs of La Grange, Texas. He is survived by two brothers, Shelby (Donna) Willett of Bryan, Texas, and Steven (Tammy) Willett of Corpus Christi, Texas, nephew Ryan Frerichs of La Grange, Texas, niece Chandra (Paul) Jobb of Seabrooke, Texas, niece Danielle (Sam) Buyers of Dallas, Texas, nephew Timothy (Keaton) Willett of College Station, and nieces, Ashley Willett and Jeanna Willett-Wenkebach of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is also survived by his great-nieces Rylie Jobb, Rian Frerichs, and Natalya Wenkenbach and great-nephews Grant Jobb and Nihkoli Wenkebach. Tim is also survived by special cousins and friends, the Thursday Night Trivia Group, and his extended NIRSA family.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony has been planned for Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville, Texas at 2:00 pm. The family asks that in honor of Tim's unique fashion sense you wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt or your best "Jammer" outfit. Burial will be in the City of La Grange cemetery next to his mother and father.
