Roger Edwin Bennett

September 6, 1955 - December 18, 2023

My dad, Roger Edwin “Ed” Bennett, 68, of Bay City passed away after a courageous and hard- fought battle against Alzheimer’s on December 18, 2023. He was born September 6, 1955 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Roger Eugene Bennett and Ernestine Ethel Law Bennett.

Dad was a proud Texas A&M University graduate. He was a true Aggie. He enjoyed attending at least one home game every year. Dad had my sister and I doing the thumbs up and saying Gig ‘Em Aggies as soon as we could talk. He was a Christian and had faith in God. He made sure my sister and I went to church at First Baptist Church Bay City every Sunday as kids.

He worked at Phillips refinery in Sweeny until his retirement. He loved and admired his coworkers who affectionately called him “Hog”. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and being a granddad (Pawpaw). He loved and respected his parents. He was the best dad. He loved us unconditionally and never judged our decisions. Dad always had a smile and a hug waiting for us. I remember all the piggyback rides, the bedtime stories, and the trips to Schlitterbahn and Disney World. He was a true kid at heart. He always sang “You are my Sunshine” to my sister and me.

See you later, Sunshine! May you rest easy in the arms of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gregg Alan Bennett.

Survivors include daughters Heather Denise Bennett-Munoz and Angela Renee Mitchell (Tommy) and grandchildren Federico Munoz III, Amber Munoz, Tanner Mitchell and Bailey Mitchell.

Visitation will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Nichols Street Church of Christ. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Park with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.
