Robert John Golden, Jr., of Ellicott City, MD, and formerly of Paramus, NJ, passed away on May 10, 2024 at the age of 72 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Robert was born on April 24, 1952 to the late Robert and Theresa (nee Burke) Golden in Jersey City, NJ. After graduating from Bergen Catholic High School in 1970, he went on to earn a B.S. from Rutgers University, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. After earning an M.S. from Texas A&M University, he enjoyed a career in environmental permitting that spanned more than 4 decades.
Robert’s true motivation in life was his family. Married to his wife, Cindy, for 44 years, he was unendingly proud of their two daughters, Melissa (Brandon Manekin) of Sykesville, MD and Emily (Joseph Scarpone) of Arlington, VA. From softball games to school plays, he was always there, supporting his girls. The highlight of his life was being the world’s-best Grampy to Austin, Tessa, and Andrew. Robert is also survived by his five siblings, Bill (Chil), Mary, Tom (Diane), Kathy, and Ed (Suzanne), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043 on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 2 pm - 3:30pm. A prayer service will begin at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Robert’s honor to Tomorrows Children’s Fund, Hackensack NJ. A celebration of life memorial service will also take place in New Jersey later this summer.
