Joanne Gray, 70, passed away from this life on May 3, 2024, in Bandera, TX. She was born in Fredericksburg, TX on December 27, 1953, to Henry Scott (Happy) Gray and Josephine Stone Gray.

Joanne attended Kerrville Schools and graduated with Honors from Tivy High School in 1972. While a student at Tivy, she also worked for the Kerrville Telephone Company as a long-distance operator in the years where a large switchboard was used to make all long-distance calls.

She attended Texas A&M University and graduated with Honors in 1976 with a degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Management. She studied Geology in Graduate School at Texas A&M and worked as a Wellsite Geologist in Utah, Oklahoma and Texas until the oilfield declined in the mid 1980’s. At that time, she returned to Kerrville and began working in office management and accounting. In 2000 she started working independently as a bookkeeper. After working for H&R Block for two years she began working for John C. Martin, CPA, in addition to her bookkeeping services.

She was also the Executive Director of the West Kerr County Chamber of Commerce for several years. Joanne had a love for education and participated in activities promoting the education of our young people. She was very proud of serving on the Board of Directors for the West Kerr County Scholarships as Treasurer. This group awards around $30,000 annually to students from Ingram High School in technical, college, or special studies in pursuit of a career. During her career, she was also active as a Board member of the Kerr County Women’s Chamber, the Texas Heritage Music Foundation, and a Board member of the Senior Games.
