Howard P. Kenney

June 4, 1930 - December 23, 2023

No one loved life more than Howard P. Kenney, our Popsy, who joined his wife of 59 years, Marcena W. Kenney and son, Robert L. Kenney DDS, in eternal peace on December 23, 2023.

At 93 ½ years young in the days leading up to his passing, he continued to live large by playing bridge, attending multiple Christmas parties and shows, singing along with a German oompa band and downing some German beers.

Born in Cincinnati, OH on June 4, 1930, Howard graduated from Western Hills High School, worked at the YMCA and loved being in DeMolay. He was a Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow, and later served as Scouts Master. He then attended the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and remains a proud Phi Kappa Alpha. He was a lifelong member of the Scottish Rite and the E.T. Carson Masonic Lodge F&AM #598 of Cincinnati. While in college, he went into the Air Force, in which he spent 22 years traveling and teaching his family the art of adaptability, taking advantage of whatever the new area had to offer. Be it Germany, Alaska, Georgia, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, etc… it didn’t matter where we were, as long as we were together, we knew how to have fun!

The Air Force sent him to back to school at Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering and again to the Air Force Institute of Technology, earning a Masters in Logistics Management. He then retired from the Air Force at the Pentagon and moved to Hagerstown, Maryland where he worked for Fairchild Republic and then Rohr Industries for 17 years. During this time, he also earned an MBA from Frostburg State University. He was also a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport, MD, where he was an Elder and active with the Men of the Church.

Upon retirement from Rohr, he and Marcena moved to St. Augustine, FL in 1991 where he lived until his passing. He is a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder on many committees and the St. Augustine Shrine Club.

Howard’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, closely followed by shopping for gifts for others and a warm, Publix glazed donut. One of his passions was love of travel. He and Marcena enjoyed countless cruises, trips to Europe and he visited every one of the United States. In 2019, he was able to take an Honor Flight to Washington, DC as a Vietnam Veteran which was a tremendously moving experience for him. He instilled his love of travel and being together with all of his family who are in town for the holiday, and Howard is dancing with delight at the celebrations this week!

Howard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Howard J. and Ann Kenney, daughter-in-law, Tami Kenney, daughters and sons-in law, Cheryl and Francis Cichy and Mary Helen and Bill Davis, daughter Faye Kenney, grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Allison Myers, Kris and Tina Kenney, Kristen Kenney and John Mastakas, Kelly and Michael Sanker, Pat and Karina Kenney, Emily and Kiki Davis, and great-grandchildren, Kalyn and Kamren Kenney, Robinson and Annie Simone Myers, Oliver Sanker, Roberto Kenney and Mihali Mastakas, his wife, Shari Scott and many friends locally and around the globe. He will be missed beyond words but the fun memories of time spent with him will live on forever.

Please join us for a service honoring his life well-lived, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Friday, December 29. 2023 at 11am. Reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
