Loran S. "Tommy" Thompson 

August 25, 1923 - December 31, 2023 

Funeral services for Loran “Tommy” Thompson of Longview, Texas formerly of Tyler, will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The service will be held in conjunction with a memorial service for his daughter Martha Thompson, who passed away the same day. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler.

Loran was born on August 25, 1923 in Jacksonville, Texas to Sam Pat and Lizzie Mae Thompson. He passed away on December 31, 2023 in Longview. He was a longtime member of Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Evelyn, his parents, and brothers, Sam and Braly Thompson, and daughter Martha.

He is survived by son, Joe and wife Connie of Longview; granddaughter Erin and husband Lon Hoang, great grandchildren Alex and Avery, of McKinney, TX; grandson Jared and Amy Chait of Centennial, CO., and nieces and nephews.

Loran was Salutatorian of his high school class in Jacksonville. He was a graduate of Texas A & M University with a Degree in Civil Engineering. He retired after a very successful career with the Texas Highway Department. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and Army Reserves, with active duty during World War II and the Korean War.

He loved baseball, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. After his wife passed away, he moved to Longview and resided at Arabella Independent and Assisted Living for seven years. He enjoyed playing pool with his new friends – the staff and residents of Arabella.

His family extends a special thank you to the staff, caregivers, and residents of Arabella and Hearts Way Hospice. If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the church or charity of your choice.
