Ronnie Dean Gauny, Sr.

June 12, 1947 - April 30, 2024

Ronnie Dean Gauny, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas. Ron was born on June 12, 1947, in San Saba, Texas, to parents Van and Nina Gauny.

Ron graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965. He continued his education at Trinity University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics. Ron then went on to further his academic success, earning a Master of Science in Biophysics with a specialization in Health Physics from Texas A&M University. With his scholarly credentials and unwavering determination, he quickly established himself in the field of nuclear physics.

On October 16th, 1987, Ron founded and became the president of The Delphi Groupe. The Delphi Groupe has supported the commercial nuclear industry and throughout the Department of Energy Complex, including the National Laboratories involved in the Stockpile Stewardship Program. Ron had a unique talent for discovering a need, writing up a business plan to solve the problem, and providing the right person to support the customer and keep a solution progressing. He was the first to give his people the benefit of the doubt in any stressful situation. Ron treated his employees like family and made many close friends over the years.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ron cherished his leisure time, marked by frequent trips to Puerto Vallarta, where he enjoyed margaritas and Mexican cuisine with his wife Evelyn and friends. While there he also loved to watch the ocean from the balcony of Costa Sur, whale watching was a favorite pastime, and he was a frequent visitor to their Botanical Gardens where he loved watching the birds and walking through the beautiful orchids. Ron was also passionate about deer hunting, an annual tradition where he bonded with his sons and shared stories around the campfire. He also relished hosting family gatherings, during which he would often be found savoring a glass of single malt Scotch, surrounded by loved ones. Ron was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Ron is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ng Gauny, of San Marcos, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Randy Gauny, daughter and husband Tammie and Andy Johnson, son and wife Ronnie Jr. and Staci Gauny, son Christopher Gauny, and daughter-in-law Noel Gauny; his stepchildren Shannon Barker, Tiffany Barker, Kevin Barker, Travis Ward, Paul Ward, and their spouses; 22 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, a nephew and niece, cousins, and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Van Gauny, mother Nina Gauny, son Patrick Gauny, and former wives Sunny Peer and Peggy Gauny.

A memorial service will be held at the Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 Capitol of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas, on Thursday, May 16th at 10:45 am, followed by a reception at the Community Center at Riverbend Church.

Donations may be made in Ron's honor to MD Anderson Cancer Center at https://gifts.mdanderson.org.  The loved ones of Ronnie Dean Gauny, Sr., wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate teams at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Cypress Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and Christus Santa Rosa Hospice - San Marcos.
