James Alvie Jackson 

December 26, 1933 - May 9, 2024 

James Alvie Jackson was born December 26, 1933, in Pitkin Louisiana. He was called to his eternal home on May 9, 2024.

Service will be on May 16, 2024 at First Baptist Church Texas City, 10000 Emmett F Lowry Expy. A viewing will be at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am, and Burial at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Geneva Jackson. Sister: Betty Cotton.

Jim graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. He received a basketball scholarship to McNeese State University. He transferred to Lamar University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1956. Upon graduation, Jim proudly served in the United States Army for four years. He was training to become a paratrooper in the army, but once the Army discovered he could play basketball, he was sent to West Point where he played basketball. Upon returning from his service, he worked at the Texaco refinery and All State Insurance.

He met Patsy Skipper at a church ice cream social. On June 17, 1961, they were married in Buna Texas, and moved to Texas City. Upon arriving the young newlyweds weathered their first storm, a Category 5 on Sept 11, Hurricane Carla. Over the next 62 years rooted in a deep faith and knowing that the Anchor Holds they created many wonderful memories, traveled the world, proudly raised their son, and served the Lord faithfully.

Jim made a difference in the lives of many students at Texas City High School during the 27 years he worked in the vocational program. To further his education, he was committed to commuting to College Station twice weekly after work, to earn a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M University in 1976.

Jim was a lifetime learner and enjoyed many hobbies. He always took the time to enjoy sports with his son. He attended all possible events to support his grandchildren. He enjoyed tending to his pecan trees and won multiple state show awards. Duck hunting and playing dominoes with his friends were some of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed traveling with his bride, and some of their favorite destinations included Australia, Israel, Alaska, Hawaii, and New Zealand.

Jim and Patsy became members of First Baptist Church Texas City in 1961. For half a decade he faithfully served through teaching youth, working on the church grounds, assisting with upward basketball, driving the bus for youth trips, serving on committees, singing in the choir, going on missions to Mexico, and much more. He was a beloved deacon and trustee. Jim was committed to the Lord and his church.

Jim is survived by, his loving wife Patsy Jackson, their son Brad Jackson, daughter-in-law Coleena Jackson, and his cherished grandchildren, Shelby and Drake Jackson. Richard and Jeanette Cotton also share in the family’s grief.

Pallbearers will be: Drake Jackson, James Martin, Dr. Henry Pope, Jay Brough, James Barger, Bryan Huskey, Billy Moore, and Ben Breedlove.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church Texas City.

The family would like to thank the nurses at HCA Clear Lake and caregiver Debra Sandals.

Officiating the service is Dennis Johns, a beloved friend of Jim Jackson and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Texas City, 10000 Emmett F Lowry Expy Suite 2000, Texas City, TX 77591.
