Chen-Yuan "Robert" Chou

June 15, 1946 - May 15, 2024

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Robert Chen-Yuan Chou, devoted husband, brother, cousin, father, grandfather, and friend passed away at the age of 77 after a three-year battle with lymphoma. He was the eldest of five children born to Kai-Fu and Ben-Chu Chou on June 15, 1946, in Shanghai, China. At two years old, in 1949, he fled China to Taiwan with his mother and cousin Mary. He grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, before emigrating to the United States in 1971.

He graduated college from National Taipei University of Technology. He then continued his education at University of Missouri St. Louis and eventually Texas A&M University, where he obtained his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and met his wife, Chengwei Sun. He worked his entire career as a mechanical engineer, both in Texas, and in the Netherlands.

Robert loved fishing, gardening, including tending to his backyard farm of Chinese vegetables, traveling, volunteering at church, and spending time with friends and family, including his two beloved grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife Chengwei; daughters Maisie Chou Chaffin and Ann Chou; son-in-law Joshua Chaffin; grandchildren Isaac and Phoebe; siblings Joseph, Terry (Chu), Ya-Li (Chen), and Candice (King); and cousin Mary Lou Hsing.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother Ben-Chu and father Kai-Fu.

He is gone but will never be forgotten and has been imprinted in our memories and hearts forever.
