Glenda Sue Young Stewart 

September 18, 1933 - May 22, 2024 

Sue Young Stewart of Bryan, Texas passed away peacefully at her home in Bryan on May 22, 2024. She was born to Irene (Dreher) and Nathan Smith on September 18, 1933, in Cameron, Texas and was brought up in Rockdale. Sue was a graduate of Rockdale High School. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, becoming the first person in her family to earn a college degree. She began a professional career as a high school Home Economics teacher in Rockdale and served as Secretary for the for the District VI Texas State Teachers Association. In 1975, Sue completed a Master's of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from Texas A&M University and joined the staff of the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M. Sue was the author of many publications including Planning Your Home, Homebuyers Checklist, Choosing a Lot for Your Home and articles in Houston Home and Garden and Real Estate Today. ln 1978, Sue established her own successful building business, Young Homes, Inc. and built over forty houses in the Bryan-College Station area.

Sue Stewart was very active in her community. Sue was a founding board member of Voices for Children, Inc., CASA of Brazos Valley. She was also a board member of the Brazos Symphony Orchestra. She was past president of the Texas A&M Women's Social Club. Sue was active in local and national politics, championed women's rights, and was generous in her support of numerous charitable organizations.

Sue had a rich life. She loved books and was an avid collector of works of female writers.

A world traveler and lover of beauty, she loved exploring places far afield, from Paris to Bombay, India. She and her husband Bill were frequent visitors to art museums and outstanding gardens and works of architecture. She lived an adventurous life, living with her husband on their sailboat, Contrail, and sailing in the Caribbean for almost two years. Friendships over the years were a great source of joy to her. Referred to as “Honey” by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, Sue is the irreplaceable matriarch of her extended family. She took an active role in shaping the lives of her descendants. The elegant Christmas gatherings she hosted were the most important family celebration of each year. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Sue Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Nathan Smith, her first husband, Clayton Floyd Talbott, and her son Clayton Reese Young.

She is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Bill Stewart, daughters Leah Renold and Maggie See, and son-in- law Frank See, sister and brother-in law, Linda and Chris Dimick , brother Dickie Smith, daughter-in-law Emmi Kirschvink, step-children Mike Stewart and Leanne Petrin, Scott and Diane Stewart, David Stewart, Chris and Ann Stewart, and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for Traditions Health Hospice and to Jackie Owens and “Dee Dee” Bircher, for their years of exceptional home care and love for Sue.

There will be a private memorial gathering.
