Laurie Williams

January 8, 1954 - May 12, 2024

Laurie Williams, age 70, of Sherman, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of May 12, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her father Billie Renfro Williams, mother Nevis Joy Williams, and sister Darbie Joyce. She is survived by partner Clifford Dean Wood, son Jason Michael Guy, and grandchild Zane Alexander Guy.

Laurie was born in Wharton, TX on January 8, 1954. She enjoyed what she referred to as a storybook childhood on her family's farm surrounded by her nurturing, tight-knit family. Always the smart one, Laurie excelled in school and her love of science led her to both open a wholesale nursery on her family farm and to become a professor after graduating from Texas A&M University. She first taught Biology at Wharton County Junior College where she sponsored the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and later added A&P to her repertoire at Grayson college where she became the science department chair. She taught Biology and A&P and was known as a hard teacher, but also as a teacher that would actually teach you something. She retired from teaching only to devote herself to caring for her elderly parents.

Laurie loved pretty things and in her free time would hunt for and surround herself with beautiful glass pieces and antiques that she would lovingly restore and care for. From the time she was a little girl until her final days Laurie had an unmatched strength of will that no one could deter. She lived her life on her own terms and will be missed by those whose lives and minds she touched.

Funeral services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Chapel in Wharton, Texas on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 1 PM.
