Steven Vance Wadding

July 14, 1959 - November 29, 2023

Steven Vance Wadding, 64, passed away on November 29, 2023. Steven was born in Sayre Pennsylvania on July 14, 1959, to Richard and Rose Wadding. Because of his father’s job his family made frequent moves and during his childhood, Steven lived in various states.

As a young child, he liked to spend time with his two brothers and friends, but he also enjoyed his books and spending time alone reading. He went on regular camping trips with his family traveling to other states while visiting national parks, state parks, amusement parks, and relatives along the way.

His family eventually moved back to Houston after his freshman year in high school, and he was enrolled in Clear Lake High. He was a member of the math club, but also enjoyed a brief stint performing when he took on a role in Fiddler on the Roof. During his senior year, Steven was awarded multiple scholarships and after high school he attended Texas A&M University where he pursued his penchant for mathematics, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Computer Science. He was a member of the Mensa Society, so it was no surprise when he was awarded another scholarship at the university level and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, earning a Master’s degree in Math and Computer Science. Even though he was no longer living in Texas, he often returned home during the holidays to visit and spend time with family.

His love of math and science soon landed him a job at Nasa Goddard Space Center in Maryland where he worked with the Hubble Space Telescope program, HST Robotic servicing, De-Orbiting missions and various other projects until retirement. While working, his love for science fiction and Tarzan never left him. Steven was a member of the Edgar Rice Burroughs fan club and always enjoyed going to the movies with his younger brother and nephew, often catching the latest sci-fi, Marvel, and DC movies.

He was predeceased by his grandparents: Olney and Martha Wadding, Jacob and Helena Pompe. He is survived by his parents, his siblings Keith (Carmela), Donald (Ramona), his niece Amy, his nephew Adam, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. followed by a memorial service and burial at Forest Park East 21620 Gulf Fwy Webster, TX 77598.
