Edward “Gary” Mullen, 81, of Townsend, MA went home to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born in Port Henry, NY on October 26, 1942, a son of the late Edward T. and Ruth M. (Ferguson) Mullen and grew up in Mineville, NY where he was a standout athlete in high school, playing baseball, basketball, and football.
He served in the United States Navy, stationed in Yorktown, VA, from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965. Gary went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in physics from Texas A&M University.
He worked as a physicist at Air Force Geophysics Research Labs at Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA for 25 years during which time he was published in scientific journals. Following his retirement from the US Government Gary went to work in private industry at Assurance Technology Corporation, Chelmsford, for 15 years.
Gary coached little league baseball, softball, and soccer for several years in Townsend. He also enjoyed golfing upon retirement. He was both an exceptionally responsible and generous individual. He attended Merrimack Valley Baptist Church in Merrimack, NH and had accepted Christ as his personal Savior in a Sunday School class as a young boy.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, June Lang (Meinhard) Mullen; his daughter, Mary Frances Mullen Buller and her husband Mark Buller; sons, Edward Shane Mullen and Patrick Gary Mullen and his wife Di Hu; grandchildren, Joshua Buller, Anna Baker and her husband Noah Baker, Esther Buller, Bethany Buller, Abigail Buller, Benjamin Buller; his brother, Dennis Mullen and his wife Diane Mullen; a niece, Allison Carrow; a nephew, Eric Mullen and his wife Erin Mullen and their children, Isaac Mullen and James Mullen and the beloved family cat Jacoby.
He is predeceased by a sister, Karen Mullen Bader.
A private graveside service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery in Townsend. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1 Montgomery Ave., Nashua, NH 03060
The T.J. Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main St. Townsend is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
