Herbert Neil "Herb" Lackshin

February 2, 1934 - May 22, 2024

Herbert Neil Lackshin, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, a life well lived and loved.

Herb was born on February 2, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Joseph and Sylvia Lackshin. Life took him to Detroit, Michigan, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and then finally Houston, Texas, where he graduated from San Jacinto High School. At 16, he entered his beloved Texas A&M University where he joined the corps and became a diehard true maroon-loving Aggie. Despite Herb’s devotion to A&M, he attended law school at the University of Texas and met Sandra Schuster, the future mother of his three children. He and Sandra moved to Victoria, Texas where he served in the Air Force. They later moved back to Austin, Texas where he finished his law degree. After graduating law school, Herb moved to Houston and began a successful career as an attorney for many years serving his clients and pursuing his love of law.

Herb inherited his love for travel and adventure from his mother, Sylvia. He traveled the world, photographing his way across the African Savannah, racing dogs in the Iditarod, capturing images of penguins in Antarctica and wild polar bears above the Arctic Circle, and diving the world’s most beautiful coral reefs.

Our beloved Poppy, the name he took on as a grandparent, was a seeker of knowledge, a voracious reader, political discussion junkie, music enthusiast, BBQ lover, and a devoted father and grandfather.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia and Joseph Lackshin, and his beloved dog, Lucky.

He is survived by his children, Elise Harris and husband Harvey Harris, Marla Roberson and husband Garett Beck, and Eric Lackshin and wife Tina Lackshin, as well as his grandchildren, Maxine (Austin) Green, Chelsea (Jay) Scott Fossi, Zachary (Morena) Roberson, Jacob and Eli Roberson, and Alexandra, Joseph, and Ari Lackshin. In addition, he was thrilled to have three great grandchildren, Everly Green, and Maverick and Olivia Scott Fossi. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara, and brother-in-law, Shelly Liss. Also left to cherish his memory is Sheila Segal, his loving partner for many years, with whom he lived some of the happiest years of his life in Montreal.

Those who wish to honor his memory may make a donation in his name to the Jewish National Fund-Plant a Tree Program, or the World Wildlife Fund for endangered species.

We will remember you and love you forever Poppy!
