Glenn Patton Burt

January 12, 1953 - May 6, 2024

Glenn Patton Burt passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, surrounded by his sons and loved ones at his home in San Antonio, Texas.

He was a master craftsman working with wood, tile, and other media, learning several of these talents from his father. Glenn's work was highly recommended by former clients and actively sought-out for renovation projects in the King William District, as well as other historic homes in San Antonio, and included several wineries in the Hill Country. He was a gifted problem-solver, took pride in the quality of his work, and had unique insight for solutions to architectural problems.

Glenn is survived by son Nathan Burt; son Corey Burt and wife Sharmiel; son Justin Burt, wife Robine and grandson Kohen; and his partner of many years, Emily Kinder. He is also survived by brother Kelly Burt and wife Sharon; sister Vickie Burt Spillers and husband Mark; and stepmother Cheryl Burt. Additionally, Glenn was blessed with many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Bryan, Texas, on January 12, 1953; the first child of Clinton and Hazel Burt. Glenn was raised in a faith-based family and community, growing up on the family farm. His numerous chores included helping his parents and grandparents with their dairy, ranching, and farm operations.

Glenn graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1971 and received a degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University in 1977.

He was a dedicated father and spent quality time with his sons and their friends gaming and building their home computer systems. Glenn appreciated a variety of music genres and was an amateur electric bass player. He was an accomplished artist, photographer, historian, avid reader, gardener, and was a compassionate caregiver to wildlife that he encountered (especially animal friends, Pepper and Houdini, two raccoons who had adopted him).

Glenn loved hiking, water sports, snow skiing, rappelling, and camping. He wholly embraced the outdoors, being a frequent visitor to state and national parks including Big Bend National Park and Enchanted Rock State Park. His accumulation of skills enabled him, along with his partner Emily, to create fantastic, decorated barge floats for the San Antonio River Authority Mission Reach Flotilla Festival.

A family graveside service will be held at the Smetana Cemetery in Bryan, and a Celebration of Glenn's Life will be held in San Antonio.

In remembrance of Glenn, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Wildlife Center of Texas, wildlifecenteroftexas.org.

Glenn set an incredible example of courage and strength in how he lived his life, even at the end. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
