Albert Mitchell Billingsley

May 12, 1922 - November 12, 2023

Albert Mitchell Billingsley, a beloved family man and centenarian who served our country in the armed forces during World War II and the Korean War, went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2023.

Born in Ovilla, Texas, in 1922, Albert grew up on the family farm. He attended Waxahachie High School before completing his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Texas A&M University.

After graduating, he was commissioned into the United States Army and deployed to the European theater of World War II, where he served as a captain at a vital ordnance depot in Antwerp, Belgium, controlling all supplies coming in and out of Germany.

Sent back to Texas to recover from a broken leg, he fell in love with a hospital volunteer, LeVell McDonald, and they married on Dec. 14, 1946, and eventually had two children: John and Emily.

During the Korean War, Mr. Billingsley was called upon once again by his country and served at an ordnance depot in Pusan, South Korea. After that, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve.

Albert was employed as a Civil Engineer at Brown and Root in Houston, Texas, building oil refineries, chemical plants, plant mills, and missile silos. He traveled the world with Brown and Root and even testified before the United States Congress on their behalf.

Albert and LeVell lived in Houston, for 50 years, where they were members of First Presbyterian Church. After his retirement, he and Mrs. Billingsley returned to the family farm in Ovilla. The couple shared a loving relationship for 67 years until her passing in 2015.

In 2022, Mr. Billingsley Celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends. He was even honored with a letter from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, thanking him for serving his country and congratulating him on a century of life.

Even into his 100th year, Billingsley lived independently, still attended Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and, with much pride, continued to pass his Texas Driver's License tests.

In his 101st year, Billingsley moved to Arkansas to be closer to his daughter and her extended family. Albert Billingsley is preceded in death by his wife, LeVell Billingsley, and his son, John Mitchell Billingsley. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Emily and William Greenhaw of Fayetteville, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Marialice Billingsley of Ingram, Texas; grandchildren, Clark Greenhaw, Elizabeth Clark and husband Edward Fayetteville, Arkansas; John Billingsley of Ingram, Texas; Alice Claiborne and husband Casey of Leander, Texas; Louise Mohle and husband Teddy of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Bryce and Emily Clark all of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Wes, Mary Beth, Caroline Mohle of Houston, Texas; Carson and Henry Claiborne of Leander, Texas.

Visitation will take place on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 W. Main St., Waxahachie, Texas.

Funeral service is set for Saturday, Nov. 18 beginning at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 7810 Shiloh Road, Ovilla, Texas with interment to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Ovilla, Texas.
