July 18, 1928 - June 9, 2024 

Major Raymond Medford (USAF, Retired), 95, of Stamford, TX passed away the evening of Sunday, June 9, 2024, in Haskell, TX surrounded by his family.

Raymond Ray Medford was born on July 18, 1928, to Robert and Willie (Jones) Medford and raised on a farm in Paint Creek, TX, as one of five children. He graduated from Paint Creek High School and Texas A&M University. He married the beautiful Billie Raughton on February 24, 1951, a union lasting 73 years and blessed with two children, Bret and Lori.

After completing college, Raymond then became a pilot in the U.S. Air Force joining on July 1, 1953, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the military on June 30, 1974, to engage in farming in Haskell County, Texas. Raymond was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church, Sul Ross Aggie Club, Military Officer Association of America, Disabled American Vet Association, a former member and board member of the Stamford Country Club. He will be remembered as a man who served his family and community selflessly and constantly. He is loved very much by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Willie Medford, three sisters, Pearl Moody, Clara Nelson and Ruby Nanny, and one brother, Willie Medford.

Raymond’s legacy of love, kindness, and service will forever be a part of the lives he touched. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through his loving family: his wife Billie Medford of Stamford, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Bret and Chris Medford of Stamford, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Lee Owens of Abilene, TX; 5 grandchildren: Brittanie Polk (James) of Weatherford, TX, Brooke Byrd Liles (Russell) of Abilene, TX, Brandie Byrd Price (Matt) of Abilene, TX, Matt Medford (girlfriend Macy Dancer) of Stamford, TX, Ace Hoadley (Aunjel) of Stamford, TX; a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd., Abilene, TX with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford, TX.
