Patricia Ann (Cunningham) Sayes

September 6, 1960 - June 7, 2024

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.”
Matthew 25:23

Our Lord’s “good and faithful servant,” Patty Sayes, was called home on Friday, June 7, 2024, to share in the joy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Patricia Ann (Cunningham) Sayes, the daughter of Dr. Richard and Jean Cunningham, was born on September 6, 1960, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Patty grew up in Temple, Texas, where she attended school and graduated from Temple High School in 1978. She then attended Texas A&M University, where she met her husband of 42 years, Kyle Sayes. With her degree in Business Administration and Marketing, Patty and Kyle married and moved to Kyle’s hometown of Lake Jackson to make their home and raise their sons, believing that “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 124:3.

Patty entered the business world of Brazoria County, serving as the Director of Marketing and Community Affairs at Angleton Danbury Medical Center (UTMB Health) from 1990-97, Marketing Director at Brazos Mall from 1997-2008, and Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Brazosport College from 2008-13. She returned to Brazos Mall as the General Manager from 2013-18.

Patty was deeply invested in her community and involved with several organizations. She worked part-time and volunteered countless hours at the Brazosport Center for the Arts & Sciences, loving to perform in the Elizabethan Madrigal Feast and numerous other theatrical productions. Patty served for the United Way of Brazoria County, the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce/Brazosport Convention & Visitors Council, Military Wives and Moms of Brazoria County, the Brazosport Rotary Club, Brazoria County Association for Children’s Habilitation (BACH), the SPCA of Brazoria County, Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County, and Boys & Girls Club of Brazoria County.

Since 2015, Patty served as a Brazosport ISD School Board Trustee. In recognition of her tremendous contributions to the Brazosport community, Patty was named the Outstanding Woman of the Year in 2015 by the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce.

Patty not only shared her relationship with Christ, but also brought others closer to Him through her ministries. She was a cherished member of the Cradle of Texas Emmaus Community, joyfully participated in the music ministry at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for more than 15 years, served on their Bereavement Committee, and was an active member of the Women of St. Michael’s. Patty was also part of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was involved in Adult and Youth Faith Formation at St. Michael’s. As a beloved friend and devoted to the God’s Girls Prayer Group, Patty helped shape an everlasting sisterhood, strengthening their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Patty was preceded in death by her mother Jean, infant son Ryan, and Kyle’s parents, Byron and Marilyn Sayes.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories of a life well lived is her husband, Kyle, and their two sons, Kevin and Stuart, and by her bonus blessing, Christopher Romero. She is also survived by her father, Dr. Richard Cunningham of Temple; sisters Kathy (David) Baird of San Antonio, Linda (Brett) Wallace of Topeka KS, and Sheila Cunningham of Temple; sisters-in-law Amy Wagner of Lake Jackson and Edith Niemeier (Brian) of El Campo; along with her numerous nieces and nephews. Patty joins her adored fur babies Pearl, Sammy, and Abby and leaves behind her beloved Annie.

Patty Sayes’ life is a testament to faith, love, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones Thursday evening, June 13, 5:30 p.m., to celebrate the life of this “good and faithful servant,” Patty Sayes, with a Rosary service immediately following, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Lake Jackson, Texas. A funeral mass will be held the following morning, Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Michael’s, followed by a luncheon at the Wleczyk Family Life Center, provided by the St. Michael’s Bereavement Committee.

In lieu of flowers, the Sayes family requests that you donate, in Patty’s name, to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lake Jackson.
