Nye Clark Withers

October 14, 1935 - June 6, 2024

Nye Clark Withers departed this life on June 6, 2024, Victoria, TX. He was born October 14, 1935, Lockhart, TX, to Clayton Donald Withers and Cora Emma Clark. He graduated from Industrial High School, Vanderbilt, TX in 1954 and was then accepted into the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, College Station, TX where he received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Clark married Barbara Walker in 1956. They moved to Denver, CO where he completed training to become a certified gunsmith. While in Denver, Clark was employed by a financial investment firm where he was an officer and held the position of company secretary.

On his life journey, Clark and his family moved to Dillon, MT where he designed and built his first house. He was a gentleman farmer and could be seen on his tractor swathing and baling hay or out in his shop working on a project. Clark, along with several other families, helped plant a church of Christ in Dillon. He designed and helped to build their building. After 25 years, Clark and his family headed back to Texas, but he remained connected to the northwest where he built and operated Elk Country BBQ in Pinedale, WY. Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter blazing trails in the Rocky Mountain West in search of big game on his horse “Sparky.” In his later years, Clark’s health issues limited his mobility but he still enjoyed family visits, especially with his great-granddaughters. He will be remembered for his storytelling, generous spirit, and his love for God and his family.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathryn Davidson, and his nephew Mark Withers. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara; children Kim, Amy, and Scott; two grandsons, Jason and Jacob; two great-granddaughters, Jocelyn and Jacqui; brother, Gordon; sister, Gail; and, other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family memorial has been held.
