Juan Nicolas "Nico" Restrepo Hernandez

January 2, 1998 - February 10, 2024

Nico, 26, peacefully departed this world on February 10, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his home in The Woodlands, TX. Born in Bogota, Colombia, on January 2, 1998, he was the cherished twin brother of Andres, and the beloved son of Liliana and Raul. He is also survived by his younger brother, Raul Alejandro.

Nico's journey led him from his Colombian roots at the age of 6 to Texas A&M University, where he pursued his studies until his illness necessitated remote classes and a relocation closer to MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was a remarkable athlete, excelling as a competitive swimmer, triathlete, passionate runner, and dedicated gym enthusiast. His passion for the water extended to teaching as a swim instructor, and lifeguard, and coaching as a private triathlon coach. Nico's leadership also flourished as he served as an aquatic director at VillaSport Resort and Spa. From his formative years on The Woodlands Swim Team to his active involvement in various triathlon and cycling clubs, Nico's athletic prowess was a testament to his unwavering dedication and determination.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Nico cherished quiet moments with loved ones, often accompanied by his favorite treats from Chipotle, Taco Bell, frozen yogurt, or cookies, ah don’t forget the spicy sauce! He found immense joy in spending time with family, particularly during holidays filled with board games and laughter among friends. Nico's bravery wasn’t confined the pool; he was known for his ability to rescue swimmers during beach vacations, exemplifying his selflessness and caring nature.

Nico courageously battled a rare and aggressive brain and spine cancer for five years. Despite his challenges, Nico's spirit remained unbroken, his optimism unwavering, and his love for life infectious. We consider ourselves blessed, and it is a privilege, to have had the chance to share our lives with such a beautiful soul.

Nico’s impact on those he encountered was profound. Describing him as merely “compassionate” would be an understatement. His genuine affection for people left an incredible mark, as evidenced by the fondness many held for him, even after brief interactions. Nico faced the future with unwavering enthusiasm, viewing obstacles as opportunities for growth and refinement.

Nico's legacy of courage, love, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he may no longer be with us, his memory will continue to inspire us to embrace life with the same passion and determination that he did.

A celebration of Nico's life will be held on February 23 at Saint Anthony of Padua, in the church at 1:00 pm, 7801 Bay Branch Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77382.
