James Charles "Jim" Bruns 

August 2, 1940 - June 14, 2024 

James (Jim) Charles Bruns of Universal City, Texas passed on Friday June 14, 2024 after a long battle with dementia at the age of 83. He was born August 2, 1940 in St. Louis, MO to Charles (Chas) and Catherine Bruns.

His father was employed by Walgreen's and was transferred to Daytona Beach, FL in 1941. During the war, Jim, his mother and sister observed several US transport ships being sunk by the Germans off the coast. This led Jim to military service. Chas later transferred to Bryan, Texas in 1948 where Jim spent most of his school years. He was very proud of his scouting activities and fondly remembered attending the Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA as well as two trips to Big Bend National Park. His scouting career ended as an Eagle Scout. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Bryan High School. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1964 and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1967.

Jim met his wife, Dottie, in San Antonio and were married in 1965. Jim had a long career in the automobile industry having worked for Ford Motor Credit, GMAC and Rush Enterprises. He retired after 36 years of selling Peterbilt heavy-duty trucks in 2008. After retirement, he enjoyed delivering trucks across the country.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nelda, and brother Jackie.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie, and his sons John and Michael, and 4 grandchildren: Jackson, Brianna, Lauren, and Jenna.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Tori and Katrina for taking such good care of Jim.

A visitation for Jim will be held from 8:00a.m. to 9:00a.m. with funeral service to begin at 9:00a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. Graveside service will follow from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
