Jon Westley Mask 

June 23, 1953 - June 5, 2024 

Jon Westley Mask, of Boerne, Texas passed away in San Antonio, Texas on June 5, 2024, at the age of 70.

Jon was born June 23, 1953, the son of late Clarence W. and Estelle Bush Mask. He grew up in Lytle, Texas on his family’s dairy farm and graduated from Lytle High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1974 and a Master of Agriculture degree in Soil & Crop Science from Texas A&M University in 1981. After graduating, he returned to Lytle and established Mask Brothers Farms with his brother Kye. They continued farming together for 15 years growing peanuts and raising cattle.

In 1983, Jon began his appraisal career as a Staff Appraiser with the Texas General Land Office and later joined The Glen Company in San Antonio. In 1993, he started working for the Farm Credit Bank of Texas in Austin and after 24 years retired in 2017 from Capital Farm Credit as Senior Vice President of Appraisal.

During his appraisal career, he met all the educational requirements stipulated by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers to earn the designation of Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA). After retiring, he earned the Real Property Review Appraiser (RPRA) designation and continued doing real estate and chattel appraisal reviews until his death. Jon was a member in good standing of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers for 40 years. In addition, he taught advanced appraisal classes and held a Texas Real Estate License.

Not only was appraising and real estate investment his occupation, but it was also his hobby. He loved every minute of his work. Many of his coworkers and clients became lifelong friends.

Jon met Nancy Ann Gray while attending Texas A&M University and they were married on March 15, 1975, in Caldwell, Texas. Jon was proud to be a “girl dad” to three daughters.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence W. and Estelle Mask; in-laws, James A. and Gwendolyn Gray; sisters, Lucy Jane Mask, Martha Gaile Mask and Charlotte Ann Mask.

Jon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Gray Mask; his daughters, Annie Elizabeth Mask of Houston, Texas, Lauren Gale Mask (Colby) of Brooklyn, New York, and Molly Gwendolyn Mask (Rob) of Dallas, Texas as well as his brothers; Kye (Jana) Mask, Van (Kathy) Mask; sisters, Kaye (Nelson) Speed, Nell (James) Shaddix, Mary (George) Mikels; brothers-in-law, Randy (Debbie) Gray and Gib (Diane) Gray and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough T-ID (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Association), American Kidney Fund or American Heart Association.
