Donald "Don" Lain '77 July 2, 2024 1:26 PM updated: July 2, 2024 1:33 PM

Donald Lynn Lain

July 8, 1955 - June 7, 2024

Donald Lynn Lain was born July 8, 1955, in El Paso, Texas. On June 7, 2024, he went to be with our Lord.

Donald was preceded in death by his father and mother, Raymond and Patricia, as well as his grandparents W.T. and Pearl. Donald is survived by his wife Bonnie Lain, children Amy Lain and her son Blain of Waco, Cody Lain and wife Melinda along with their children Madilyn and Kenzi of Joshua, and Kristen Mitchell and husband Patrick along with their children Ben, Morgan, Andrew, Austen, Emily, Becky, and Natalie of Rio Vista, brother Billy Dan Lain of Granbury, and sister Paula Hudgins of Virginia.

Donald attended Cleburne High School and received several scholarships to Texas A&M University for his excellence in school. He was a devout Aggie and enjoyed sharing his Aggie pride. After retiring from Dow Chemical in 1996, he moved his family back to Cleburne where he worked for Lone Star Ranch and Outdoors until they closed their doors in 2018. At that time, he decided it was time to retire to work on the ranch with his animals. He loved being outdoors and all things farming and ranching.

Donald loved all his grandchildren very much. He taught his first grandson Blain how to ride goats at the age of 3, and even though it resulted in a broken arm, they continued to ride. He loved when Madilyn would stay the night and watch John Wayne movies and rodeos. He enjoyed watching Kenzi ride her tractor around the house. His last 6 years, he spent caring for, at the time, his youngest granddaughter, Becky, who was his best friend and kept him pushing through. He was able to hold and dance with his final grandchild, Natalie, just a few days prior to his death. He had plans of building a garden with all the grandkids.

Donald was many things, some of the most interesting being a skilled debater, an astute backgammon player, and a John Wayne aficionado. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

Memorial service for Donald will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 14, 2024, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel.
