James P. "Jim" Hupy

October 2, 1940 - June 18, 2024

James P. “Jim” Hupy, age 83 of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June
18, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a man strong in his faith, and in his
love for his family. He was born on October 2, 1940 in Stephenson, Michigan to Phillip
and Roberta Hupy, and was integrally involved in his community and his church during
all of his formative years. Jim attended Texas A&M University, where he joined the Air Force
Squadron 21 of ROTC. After a brief period where Jim worked for Redball Freight and
Otis Elevator, he returned to and graduated from Texas A&M on the Dean’s List with a
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in the spring of 1965. Soon to follow was
a career at The Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) which spanned from 1965 to
retirement in 1995. While there, he filled numerous positions across the company
including manufacturing management, environmental management, and contributing
expertise on the smelting process to more than 15 countries. Jim was a sports
enthusiast, Steeler’s fan, avid car lover, gadget lover, world traveler, and a lover of
desserts - especially chocolate! Jim was a member of Central Baptist Bearden, as well
as the Men’s Links Bible Study, Sunday School, Life Group, and was involved with the
Boy Scouts of America.

Jim had a servant’s heart. He was compassionate, a role model for many, a loving
husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and “Grandpa Jim”, and was truly a Protector and
Provider. Jim had a close, personal relationship with his Lord which carried him
throughout his lifetime until they met face to face. In addition to his parents Phillip and
Roberta Hupy, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law Russell Altherr, and his sister
Laura M. Dunne.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, his wife Lori; mother-in-law, Alice E. Altherr;

J. Hupy (Emily), and Matthew S. Hupy (Skylar); grandchildren Paige Graybeal (Chris),

cousins.
