Rickey Lee "Rick" Sweat

September 7, 1954 - June 21, 2024

Rickey Lee Sweat, 69, passed on Friday, June 21, 2024 in Dallas, Texas.

Rick was born on September 7, 1954 in Commerce, Texas. He was the son of Annette (Yates) and Robert Sweat and enjoyed a childhood growing up surrounded by a large extended family. After graduating from MacArthur High School in Irving in 1973, he attended Southern Methodist University for one year, then transferred to Texas A&M University, where he lived in Walton Hall and helped build the Aggie Bonfire. He was Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '77, but graduated early with an Accounting degree in 1976. He went on to have a long career as a CPA, most notably at Lane Gorman Trubitt, Ernst & Young, and most recently KDC where he worked for over ten years as VP/Controller.

Rick was a devoted husband of 44 years. He married Judy (Hogan) Sweat in 1980 after reconnecting at their 5-year high school reunion, and they recently enjoyed attending their 50-year reunion. They enjoyed traveling with their children to Hong Kong, Japan, China, England for the wedding of Tina Carlile & Rajiv Kapur, and many U.S. cities. They resided in Bedford, Texas for 40 years before moving to Dallas in 2020 to be closer to their grandchildren.

As a man of integrity and honesty, Rick served his community by volunteering on the Bedford City Ethics Committee. He had a lifelong love of soccer and played in numerous men's leagues, refereed all ages, coached both of his children's teams throughout the years, and even volunteered at the International Broadcast Centre in the 1994 World Cup in Dallas. His love of cooking and baking began at an early age, learning by watching his grandmother ("Nannie") and helping her gather ingredients from her garden. He continued to cook for his family through his very last day.

Rick is survived by wife Judy Sweat, children Sean Sweat (Chelsea Smith) & Kristen Saxton (Matt Saxton), grandchildren Smith, Shep, & Chloe, sister Teresa Reitz (Doug Cox), nieces Amber Perez & Rachel Reitz (John Coats), aunts Judy Russell & Alma Yates, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas on Saturday, July 27 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Texas A&M University.
