Frederick E. "Fred" Luhm

March 6th, 1941 - June 8, 2024

Frederick "Fred" E. Luhm, age 83, of Austin, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Fred was born on March 6th, 1941 in El Paso, Texas to the late Bennette Edward Luhm and Naomi Kate Blocksom Luhm. He was a devoted husband, loyal friend, proud Aggie, and had a quick smile and wit that was a gift to others.

Fred was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1963. He served as a U.S. Army First Lieutenant in Korea and was fiercely patriotic - the American flag was on display year-round throughout his life, and he often spoke of his love of country and participated in Veteran’s Day events in schools.

Fred met Clarice Andrews in Bryan, Texas on a blind date and never looked back. They were married in 1964. After returning from Korea, Fred began his career with the airlines. He was an executive with Eastern, National Airlines, Western and with Pan American Airlines. Clarice and Fred had an adventurous life, living the majority of their life in Coral Gables, Florida. They also lived for a time in Korea, New York City, Palos Verdes, California, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and eventually settled in Austin, Texas for the remaining 15 years of his life. Fred loved the ocean and was a member of the Riviera Country Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, Ocean Reef Club, and President of the Beach Colony Club. He and Clarice were members of Riverbend Church and loved attending with family members there.

Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clarice Andrews Luhm, four nieces: Donna Andrews, Katy Ford, Kristy Knippa and husband Brad, Kelly Sharp and husband Kevin, and eleven beloved nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Dale Andrews, brother-in-law, William Henry “Billy” Andrews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gwen Andrews Ford and Davis Ford. This year, Fred conveyed his Aggie senior boots to his nephew, Jordan Turbeville ‘25, knowing the boots would feel the brush of grass on Kyle Field, as Jordan marches in the Texas Aggie band this fall.

A graveside service for Fred will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at College Station City Cemetery, 2530 Texas Ave South, College Station, TX 77840. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Parkcrest, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.

Donations in his memory may be made to Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Association.
