William "Bill" Marr '77 July 26, 2024 2:46 PM updated: July 26, 2024 2:54 PM

Dr. William H. Marr

August 29, 1955 - June 28, 2024

On June 28, 2024, Dr. William Harris Marr passed away peacefully at his home in College Station, TX at the age of 68.

Bill (as friends’ knew him) grew up in Victoria, TX, the middle child of Betty and Harris Marr. In high school, he was voted “Most Likely to Succeed,” a title he truly lived up to through his dedicated career as an ophthalmologist, continuous church leadership, devoted parenting, and a stubborn commitment to generously support anyone in his life.

After high school, Bill went to Texas A&M University (much to his t-sip dad’s chagrin), where he met the love of his life, Linda Kenner. They married in 1976 after Bill’s first semester of medical school at UT Medical School in San Antonio, kicking off a 47 year marriage full of love and adventure.

Following his residency, Bill served the Brazos Valley community for nearly 40 years through his ophthalmology practice that continues today. He also brought his surgical skills internationally, performing charitable cataract surgeries for hundreds of people in Haiti, Belize, and the Dominican Republic.

Traveling with family was one of his greatest joys, from Alaska fishing trips to Disney World magic. He was a skilled woodworker, pretty good fly fisherman, his children and grandchildren’s biggest advocate and a gadget enthusiast.

Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, his children Daniel and Caitlin; three grandchildren, Eleanor, Mabel, and Teddy; his golden retriever Luna; his sister Kathy, and brother Rick. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Lou and Harris Marr, as well as a long list of family dogs.

The family would like to thank the many people who lifted up prayers and supported us throughout this difficult journey. We are also grateful for Hospice Brazos Valley and Home Spark who supported us when we needed it most.

A service will be held at A&M United Methodist church on July 11, 2024 at 1pm at A&M United Methodist Church. A reception will follow with an opportunity to honor Bill.
