Richard "Rich" Ambler '74 July 26, 2024 3:33 PM updated: July 26, 2024 3:39 PM

Richard Melvin Ambler

June 8, 1946 - June 27, 2024

Richard Ambler, 78, of Hot Springs Village, AR passed away June 27, 2024, in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. Richard was born on June 8, 1946, in Abbeville, Louisiana to Foster and Clara (Fikes) Ambler.

While attending school at Texas A&M University, Richard met the love of his life, Amy; she was his biggest cheerleader and always stood by him during his graduate school years at Texas A&M and Oklahoma State University. Richard and Amy were married for forty years.

He has been a resident of southern Arkansas since 1978, moving to Magnolia to teach Sociology at Southern Arkansas University, which he did for over 30 years.

Richard is preceded in death by both parents; his wife, of forty years, Amy Garcia Ambler (1949-2012); his two older siblings, Foster Ambler and Patricia Collier as well as his beloved dachshund, Rustopher Melbri Ambler (Rusty).

He is survived by his only child, Richard (Richie) Ambler and his daughter in-law, Jessica and his two grandsons, Toban and Hugo, all from Roaring Gap, NC.

Richard was an avid golfer from his youth and passed down the love for the game to his son, Richie.

Richard became a Christian early in his professional career and remained strong in his faith for the rest of his life, being led in every decision by his faith and seeking closer connection with God during the last several years of his life. His life in Christ prompted his study and research into Christian themes in Sociology throughout his career.

In walking each day in strong faith Richard “ended each day knowing he gave it everything he had’ and with that, he left some big shoes to fill with a legacy of strong faith to his grandsons in knowing they can “dream as big as the sky” if they too walk with faith and seek God.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at CedarVale Cemetery in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Arrangements were entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home, the only funeral home inside the gates of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
