David C. Whitenberg
February 6, 1931 - July 4, 2024
David C. Whitenberg, Ph.D., died July 4, 2024, at age 93. He grew up in Linden but spent his adult life as a professor of biology. His doctorate was awarded by Texas A&M University. He retired from Texas State University in San Marcos, and upon retirement was named Professor Emeritus by the university. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Hospital Corps from 1951-1955.
His parents were David Moore Whitenberg and Jane Priscilla Marlar Whitenberg. His sisters were Marian Whitenberg Bowden and Martha Jane Whitenberg Wynn.
He is survived by one son, Charles David Whitenberg and one sister Escha Lajo Whitenberg Stiteler. Other survivors include nieces Rebecca Bowden Narramore (Dub), Suzan Wynn New (Pat), Glenda Stiteler Yando; and nephews Richard Moore Bowden (Holly), Nathan Loyd Wynn (Cynthia), John Marlar Wynn (Polly), and David Stiteler (Janet). He is also survived by a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
