Evelyn (Courtney) Clements
April 7, 1936 - June 19, 2024
Evelyn Clements, 88, of Bryan, Texas died of heart disease on June 19, 2024.
She was born on April 7, 1936 in Woodville, Texas to Gladys Enloe and Maurice Courtney. Evelyn was raised in East Texas and received a degree from Sam Houston State University followed by a Master of Education from Texas A&M University. Her 45 year teaching career was spent in Beaumont, Vidor, Houston, Deer Park, Bryan and Trinity ISD. During her school days, she mentored many young teachers and was known to have a special fondness for students who struggled.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Joe Courtney and son Michael Clements. Evelyn is survived by her husband Thomas, brother Lee Courtney, sister-in-law Vicki Courtney, daughters Penne Childers (Casey) Weidig, Pamela Childers (John) Roffino, Cheryl Clements (John) Schaffer and son Mark (Tricia) Clements. "Granny" is also survived by grandchildren who love her dearly: Sam Weidig, Corey Weidig, John River Clements, Jack Roffino, Joey Roffino, Marlene Schaffer, Hannah Clements and Shawn Hinson.
Ev's greatest super power was the ability to find the best in every person she met. She loved reading on her Kindle, solving puzzles and cheering on her Aggies in all seasons whether they were winning or losing. Until the end, she was tuned in to their quest for the College World Series championship.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Country Fellowship Church 408 East 24th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803. The burial will be private.
