Jarrell D. Pruitt

August 26, 1933 - June 30, 2024

Jarrell (Jerry) Dwayne Pruitt, Sr. peacefully passed away on June 30, 2024, at age 90, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 26, 1933, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Thomas Orbin Pruitt and Vera Estelle Wininger Pruitt.

Jarrell's life was a testament to his family, faith, and community. He graduated from Corpus Christi College-Academy, Texas in 1951, and entered Texas A&M University (Class of '55) the same year. His education was interrupted to serve in the army but he returned to Texas A&M, graduating in 1959, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, member of Tau Beta Phi.

Following graduation, he and his wife Brenda Lea Brown Pruitt moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked at Sandia Corporation until 1961, then joined The Trane Company in San Antonio. In 1968, he acquired a Trane franchise in Fresno, California, returning to Texas in 1981 to work at Brandt Engineering, Inc. and later at Jud Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. In 1988, he joined Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) as Senior Facilities Engineer, retiring in 2005 but continuing as a consultant.

Active in his community, Jarrell participated in numerous organizations including Power Squadron, Rotary Club (North Central, San Antonio), Boy Scouts (Troop 90), ASHRAE, MCA, and American Legion Post 10. A dedicated member of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church since 1984, he led the New Member's Class and the Stephen's Ministry program.

Jarrell married Brenda on July 10, 1954, and they were 10 days shy of celebrating 70 years together. He cherished his family and was known for his storytelling and love of Aggie traditions. Jarrell remained mentally sharp until his final days, always engaging his engineering mind.
