William Dean "Bill" Warren

January 21, 1928 - June 24, 2024

William Dean "Bill" Warren, age 96, of Jamestown, NC, left this world for new heavenly adventures on June 24, 2024. His ticker got tuckered out in the end.

Bill was born on January 21, 1928, to a young teenage couple named Merle and Charlie Warren in Mineral Wells, Texas. He grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins, learning to love the ways and stories of the land and its people.

Bill attended a nearby two-room grade school and then Mineral Wells High. He was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii as a US Marine, just as WWII ended. He graduated from Texas A&M University with an Industrial Education degree and already had lots of Los Angeles and Fort Worth tool & dye work experience on his resume. Western Electric recruited him to Greensboro NC, where he met a red headed nurse named Dot Collins at a local Y dance. Her family took him right in as one of their own, and they were happily married.

Bill and Dot headed back to Fort Worth for a few years so he could buy a farm with the help of his uncles and a veteran's land grant. This was the same farm he and his grandpa camped and fished on in his childhood, and it was adjacent to his ancestors' homeplace.

They soon returned to Jamestown NC, where Bill worked as a planning engineer at Western Electric's Graham army missile plant until he retired in 1990. They had two children Cathy and Cindy, and they lost their twins Linda and Brenda soon after birth, due to prematurity.

After Dot's death from an illness, Bill fell in love with another nurse during a company physical, Martha Stallone. Martha had a daughter named Susan from her first marriage. Martha and Bill married in 1975, and he enjoyed being a part of her big family. They had fun travelling together over the years until her passing in 2009.

Bill thrived on the camaraderie of working with others, whether it was tending cattle with his Dad and their relatives on the farm or working with his Lions Club friends on their yearly antique machinery show. Bill never met a stranger, and always looked at the glass as half full. Each of his grandchildren was so special to him, and he always took great interest in what they were learning in life.

Bill's sister Joyce Guinn left this world in 2019. Left to celebrate Bill's life are his sister Charlene Tate of Waxahachie TX (husband Greg); daughter Cathy Nemtsov of Jamestown, her son Andrei Nemtsov of Jamestown and her daughter Ksenia Lin of Yonkers NY (husband Dongguan and son Alex); daughter Cindy Castevens of Winston Salem NC (husband Philip), her sons Sam and Noah; and step-daughter Susan Oliver of Greensboro NC (husband Ted), her daughters Kelsi Oliver of Brooklyn NY and Devon Oliver of Greensboro NC and her son Myles Oliver of Raleigh NC; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2024, 2 p.m., at Jamestown United Methodist Church (where he was a member), 403 E. Main St. Jamestown NC, led by Rev. Dr. David Greene.

Bill's body has been donated to the Wake Forest medical school for research, and his ashes will rest at Indian Creek Baptist Church cemetery, where a graveside service will be held next year.

Memorials and donations may be made to Jamestown United Methodist Church or The Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation.
