Elmer passed away in his sleep, after a four-month struggle with stomach cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer Christian Jacob and Matilda Arnecke Jacob and older brother Dennis Ray Jacob and daughter in law Gerlane Jacob.
He is survived by sister Jeanie Dell Schulze (Olen) and brother Nelson Loyd Jacob and numerous Jacob and Arnecke relatives.
Elmer grew up on a farm in the Kilgore Community of Goliad County and is a proud graduate of Goliad High School (Class of ’54) and Texas A&M University (Class of ’58). He is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served state-side in the Quartermaster Corps.
He loved to hunt and fish, having hunted all over Texas and Colorado and fished the rivers, lakes, and shoreline of Texas. Rattle the dominoes and he was ready to play 42, Straight or Moon. After college and military service, Elmer taught school and served as elementary school principal in Taft, Texas and spent most of his professional career as owner and manager of the Western Auto Associate store in Woodsboro, Texas. His long-time loyal associate and friend, Olivia Yanez was always ready and able to step in and manage the store while Elmer was hunting or fishing. He always found time to worship the Lord and was a faithful member and supporter of Peace Lutheran Church of Woodsboro and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Ander (Goliad County). Elmer's family and many friends will attest that he leaves a lasting legacy of honesty, unblemished character and love.
