Norman Lee Jenkins
December 6, 1942 - February 16, 2024
Norman Lee Jenkins died February 16, 2024, at the age of 81, after fighting congestive heart failure for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Jenkins, his daughter Julie Brewer, son-in-law John Brewer, daughter-in-law Melinda (Mimi) Jenkins, grandson Jess David Flores, his twin brother Neal Jenkins, twin sisters Carolyn del Pozo and Marilyn Carter, plus many other family members and friends.
Norman served in the United States Marine Corps during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was also posted in Okinawa and offshore Vietnam during the very early stages of the conflict. He returned to Texas A & M University as a member of the Marine Corps Inactive Reserves to finish his degree in Geology; during that time, he met and married Joan, making her one of the very first women to attend A & M.
After graduating, he took the first of three jobs as a petroleum geologist that formed his career. He worked for Cities Service Oil Company, then for The Superior Oil Company, and ended his career with Elf Aquitaine Oil, retiring when that company merged with Total.
Norman and Joan had two children, Julie, who was an early childhood teacher for many years, and David, who was a civilian Air Force employee all over the world and died in August of 2023 of kidney cancer. Norman was active in his church and community, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Marine Corps Association Foundation at www.mca-marines.org/donate-to-mcaf.
