Patrick George "Pat" Marek
December 4, 1951 - July 14, 2024
On December 4, 1951, the world was forever changed when Patrick George Marek was born to Joseph and Marcella Marek. Born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas, he was the youngest of three boys, being a real pain in the neck to his older brothers Joe and Milton. He grew up on the corner of Glade and Anna Street in College Station. He attended first through eighth grade at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, arriving at school every day via the city bus. Together, the three boys would catch the bus at the A&M Golf Course, ride it to the County Courthouse on Texas Avenue and walk the remaining three blocks to school. This daily ritual forged a bond between Patrick and his eldest brother, Joe; a bond that remained strong and important throughout both their lives.
Patrick graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1970 where he again changed the life of his forever sweetheart, Desiree’ Allen Marek. Desi eyed him at a high school basketball game and told a friend she thought he was cute. The message was relayed to Pat and he sent her a note asking for her phone number and she gladly gave it to him. They were married on November 25, 1972 and shortly after welcomed their first baby girl.
Patrick graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Parks. The young family relocated to Odessa, Texas for a short time before finding their way back to Aggieland where they welcomed a second baby girl and then a baby boy. Upon return to College Station, Pat started a small construction company that he cultivated into Marek Brothers Construction Company. He and his oldest brother Joe worked together daily for over 30 years and held ownership of the company until they retired in 2021.
Over the years, Patrick and Desi loved spending spring breaks skiing with their children and grandchildren in Telluride, Colorado and summer vacations on the sugar white sands of the beaches in Florida. After retirement, Pat and Desi settled at their family farm in Deanville, Texas, a longtime dream of Pat’s. Together they raised Black Angus cattle, enjoyed making improvements to the farm and spending quiet evenings on their back porch.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Desiree’ Marek, his daughter Laetatia McMullin and husband, Brian of The Woodlands, Texas, daughter Summer Caldwell and husband, Cody of College Station and son Patrick Allen and wife, Kristen of College Station. In addition, Patrick had eleven grandchildren including Lexi, Olivia, Eliza and Lillie McMullin of The Woodlands, Hallie, Ty, Zoey, and Jolee Zimmerman and Brynn Caldwell of College Station and Scottie Jo and Wade Marek of College Station.
