Ronnie Lawrence McPherson, a cherished husband and father, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024. He was 79 years old.
Ronnie was born on April 1, 1945 in Houston, Tx to Frank and Evelyn McPherson. He grew up in Normangee, Tx loving the freedom of a boy in the country. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1967, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country as an officer with honor and distinction. He flew in over 200 B-52 missions during Vietnam, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism twice, a member of elite River Rats, Junior Officer of the Year, and Outstanding Officer in the Pacific 8th Air Force, along with numerous other awards.
Ron pursued many careers; Business manager for Wright Cattle Company, Owner of Bandera Feed & Nursery, Engineering Headhunter, Medina Valley ISD Business Manager, Spring Branch ISD Chief of Operations / Deputy Superintendent, Clear Creek ISD Superintendent of Operations Associate. His dedication and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was known for his unwavering work ethic and his ability to bring people together, his innovative thinking and ability to solve complex problems, leaving a lasting impact in his field.
Outside of work, Ron was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered tirelessly for many charities and organizations, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. He served as the Director Alamo Area Council of Governments (ACOG), Mayor of Castroville from 1993 to 1995 and was a founding member of its “Old Fashioned Christmas” and “Castroville Antique Show”. President of the Parent Teacher Association at Medina Valley ISD. He also served on the Comfort ISD School Board from 2010 to 2014.
Ron's greatest joy in life was his family. He married the love of his life, Suzanne nee Smith, with whom he shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Amy Haffner, Christian McPherson and Megan Chapman. He was a loving and supportive father, always encouraging his children to pursue their dreams and embrace life's challenges with courage and determination.
Ron felt the calling of our Lord at the young age of six and dedicated himself to serving Christ in many capacities all his life. He was an active member of his local church and became a deacon at the age of 28.
Ron will be remembered for his perseverance in the face of adversity, strong Christian faith and his profound love for his family and close friends.
Ronnie Lawrence McPherson is survived by his devoted wife, Suzanne; his loving children, Amy Haffner (Ron) of Comfort, Tx, Christian McPherson (Lindsey) of Lissie, Tx and Megan Chapman (Cody) of Comfort, Tx; his beloved grandchildren: Taylor Haffner, Mason Haffner, Hudson McPherson, Lauren McPherson, Phineus Chapman, Poppy Chapman, Eli Chapman, and Ollie Chapman. He is also survived by his sister Terri Burns (Jim) of Houston, Tx. He was preceded in death by his father Franklin Ollie McPherson, mother, Evelyn Louise (Priest), & brother Franklin Ollie McPherson, Jr.
A graveside service and interment with military honors will be held on Friday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the Comfort Cemetery, Comfort, TX. Everyone is invited to attend a luncheon provided directly afterwards at the McPherson home, 303 FM 1621 Comfort, Tx.
